National quantitative data and qualitative insights from multidisciplinary healthcare professionals and interpreters will be presented, spanning the hyperacute, acute, and early sub-acute phases of stroke recovery. The findings highlight disparities in care and outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse people with aphasia and explore mechanisms contributing to these inequities.
Kathleen is a speech pathologist who recently completed her PhD investigating post-stroke aphasia care for culturally and linguistically diverse populations. She has worked in public hospitals in Melbourne since 2017, with a particular interest in acquired neurological communication and swallowing difficulties. She is currently a lecturer in the Speech Pathology Department at La Trobe University.
