COMPARE Naming Battery

The COMPARE naming battery contains 180 object (110 noun) and action (70 verb) coloured photographs. It can be used to assess the severity of an individual’s word retrieval impairment and identify stimuli suitable for inclusion in intervention. The coloured photographs are displayed on 2-sided playing card sized cards (89mm x 63mm; 3.5 inches x 2.5 inches) with a matt finish and rounded corners for easy handling. One side contains the photo and the reverse side the item number.
The items in the naming battery are arranged according to level of difficulty from easier to harder items based on word frequency, syllable number and syllable complexity. Each item is presented one at a time for naming. Participants have a maximum of 10 seconds to respond to each item. No cues are given. Responses as scored as correct/incorrect, and errors can be further recorded as: (1) no response; (2) semantic error; (3) phonologic error; or (4) other error.

COMPARE Therapy Cards: Pictures & Written Words
– 2 BOX SET
The COMPARE therapy cards consist of 480 coloured photographs of pairs of nouns (144 x 2) and pairs of verbs (96 x 2). The coloured photographs are displayed on 2-sided playing card sized cards (89mm x 63mm; 3.5 inches x 2.5 inches) with a matt finish and rounded corners for easy handling. One side contains the photo, and the reverse side is coloured identifying which set it is from. Coloured dividers separate the subgroups and list in writing the items within that set.
The nouns and verbs are sub-divided into three levels of difficulty: “easy”, “moderate” and “hard”. The level of difficulty is determined by word frequency, syllable length, and syllable complexity. Each set (easy/moderate/hard) contains 80 items: 48 nouns and 32 verbs. There is some overlap of items across sets. There are two cards for each item (pairs) to allow card games requiring matching tasks. In addition, there are 10 adjective cards (4 emotions; 2 sizes; 4 colours) to assist in phrase and sentence construction.
All picture therapy cards have a corresponding card with the written word on it. The written word cards are presented on coloured cards in a separate box, arranged identically to the picture cards for easy access and storage.

Therapy Card specifics:
Card sets were designed and manufactured for the Compare research project, some sets have been very lightly used but all sets for sale are in excellent condition. These card packs are being sold on a cost recovery basis. Many hours of work and funds have gone into sourcing images, copyright, design and printing. We are not aiming to make a profit on them, just trying to recover costs to put back into more aphasia research!
The 48 nouns are divided into 3 subsets of 16 items (Sets A-C) and the 32 verbs into 2 subsets of 16 items (Sets D-E).

In addition, 10 adjectives can be used in each stimuli set to expand the level of phrase and sentence structure available during production tasks. The adjective cards can be placed on the table during phrase construction to indicate the adjective(s) to be used in a certain phrase. A participant may be able to generate relevant adjectives for phrase and sentence construction that are beyond these 10 items, and without these card prompts.
