We are seeking people with aphasia to help us co-design a new research tool for aphasia clinical trials.
Title of project: Aphasia-DOOR: Your Voice in Measuring Research Success

This study is about finding a better way to measure how well aphasia treatments work.
Currently, research often focuses on only one aspect (for example language or quality of life).
But people with aphasia experience changes across many areas of life.
We are developing a new method called Aphasia-DOOR.
People with aphasia are helping us design this method so it measures outcomes that matter to them – such as communication, daily activities, and overall wellbeing.
We aim to:
Learn which changes from therapy matter most to people with aphasia.
Work with people with aphasia to create a better, consumer-informed outcome tool.
The project has ethical approval from La Trobe University. All details are provided in the participant’s information and consent form.
Participation is entirely voluntary and choosing not to take part will not result in any negative consequences 🙂
Co-designers will be paid for their time. $60/hour up to a total of $420. Payment will be made in gift vouchers.

I would like to participate in any research that helps aphasia sufferers. However I have PPA, not caused by a stroke. I first saw a Neurologist in February 2023, where he pointed out on the brain scans, some TIA’s. I went back the following two years, and PPA was diagnosed in February 2025. I have gradually got worse with my speech – it’s getting slower and slower, where some people don’t even understand me. I had speech therapy last year and in looking into more this year, just because there more helpful hints. I use an iPad for the Doctor,Dentist, Chemist and anyone I have dealings with. I write a story before I go.
