Attendees will learn about innovative wearable technologies used to measure real-world communication. Preliminary findings as well as feasibility and acceptability will be discussed. Ethical considerations for collecting intimate data that presents novel privacy and confidentiality considerations will be reviewed in addition to data collection barriers and lessons learned.

Leora R. Cherney, PhD, is the Scientific Chair of Think and Speak at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) and Professor of both Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences & Disorders at Northwestern University. She has 40+ years of clinical and research experience in adult neurologic communication disorders.

Laura E. Kinsey, MS, CCC-SLP, is a Research Speech-Language Pathologist at the Centre for Aphasia Research & Treatment at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Her interests include leveraging technology to support individuals with aphasia, advocating for communication accessibility, and incorporating participant experiences and feedback into the research process.
