As part of Aphasia Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the innovative research projects being undertaken by the Centre of Research Excellence in Aphasia Recovery and Rehabilitation.
Update on M-MAT Tele.
Bringing intensive aphasia therapy into the home.
Accessing intensive aphasia therapy can be difficult. Distance, travel, mobility and availability of services can all make it harder for people to receive the amount of therapy they need.
M-MAT Tele is addressing this challenge by delivering high-dose aphasia therapy through telehealth, allowing people to participate from the comfort of their own homes.
Promising results
Findings from early testing are encouraging.
Participants have shown improvements in their communication and quality of life. Many have also reported that connecting with other people with aphasia during the program has been a valuable part of the experience, providing opportunities for peer support and shared learning.
Recruitment milestone
We have now reached halfway to our recruitment target of 72 participants.
As the study continues, we look forward to learning more about how telehealth can improve access to intensive aphasia rehabilitation for people across Australia.
