In the past few weeks we have been celebrating the official retirement of our beloved Director, Emeritus Professor Miranda Rose.
The Aphasia CRE was Miranda’s vision and she worked tirelessly towards the aim of an Australia wide collaboration betweeen multi-disciplinary professionals to advance the research around aphasia to better support people with aphasia, their familes and friends. The achievements under her guidance during the last 7 years have been nothing but amazing. We are so pleased that as a retired Emeritus Professor, Miranda will still remain involved in our research and her supervision of PhD students, while also enjoying well-deserved time in retirement to pursue personal, family, and travel interests. New Aphaisa CRE Director – We welcome our new Aphasia CRE Director, Professor Robyn O’Halloran.
Robyn has an impressive track record in research focused on creating communicatively accessible healthcare environments and improving health equity for people with communication disabilities, including developing tools and approaches to support better communication between healthcare providers and patients with aphasia. She has been an integral part of the Aphasia CRE from its beginning, and we are delighted to welcome her into the Director’s role.
Deputy Director- We also welcome Associate Professor Annie Hill as Deputy Director of the Aphasia CRE.
Annie is a leading researcher in telerehabilitation for people with aphasia, with extensive work on developing and evaluating technology-enabled models of aphasia therapy to improve accessibility and outcomes. Her research has played a key role in advancing evidence-based telehealth approaches within our field.
Miranda has left big boots to fill, but with the support of the School of Allied Health at La Trobe University and the appointment of these two wonderful colleagues to lead us into 2026, we are all grateful that the amazing research work, collaborations, and community of the Aphasia CRE will continue to grow and make a meaningful difference in the lives of people with aphasia, their families, carers, and friends.
